The Helpdesk is the immediate interface that students have with the Department of Student Affairs. It is the location for students to make general inquiries and join societies. It is the place where student organisations can hire equipment, get their mail, get general support for their societies. They can also make applications for the Student Travel Fund, Societies' Travel Assistance Fund, Societies' Publication Fund and the Student Fund for Visiting Speakers. The Helpdesk can also fax documents and do small scale printing for the societies.
The Helpdesk also allocates lockers annually for use by student organisations. Societies can query this with the Helpdesk Assistant.
The Helpdesk is on Level 5, Steve Biko Students' Union building on Upper Campus.
The Societies' Helpdesk rents out equipment to recognised student societies and organisations in order to support student events and programmes. Projectors, projector screens and PA systems are available for rental that is run through each society's administrative grant.
Bookings can be made through the Societies' Helpdesk. Societies and Development Agencies will not be required to pay rental fees, while all other student organisations will be required to pay a small fee. A deposit will be made upon booking items, which will be refunded unless the booking is cancelled less than 48 hours before the event.
It is important to note that students will be held responsible for all equipment used.
Equipment may be booked through the Helpdesk Assistants.
Student Organisations are entitled to book venues on the university campuses through the UCT Venues Management. Venue bookings can be made by emailing the details of the event, the number of attendees, date and time to UCT Venue Booking.
